How to Delete More Than 50 Messages at a Time in Yahoo Mail

Published on

If you don’t regularly clean your Yahoo Mail inbox, it can quickly fill up with hundreds or even thousands of emails. Deleting them one by one is time-consuming and frustrating. The good news is that Yahoo Mail allows you to delete more than 50 messages at once — in fact, you can delete all of your emails in just a few clicks.

In this guide, you’ll learn how to bulk delete emails in Yahoo Mail, whether you’re using the new Yahoo Mail interface or the classic (basic) Yahoo Mail.

Why Bulk Deleting Emails in Yahoo Mail Is Useful

Most people use email for three main reasons:

  • Communication with friends, family, or work
  • Subscribing to newsletters and promotions
  • Logging into online accounts

Over time, especially if you’ve used your Yahoo account for website sign-ups or newsletters, your inbox can get cluttered with thousands of unread emails. Bulk deleting helps keep your account clean and ensures that important emails are easier to find.

Quick Tip: Before bulk deleting, search for keywords like invoice, order, or a sender’s name. This lets you save important emails while removing everything else.

How to Delete More Than 50 Messages in Yahoo Mail

Option 1: Delete All Emails in the Latest Yahoo Mail

The updated Yahoo Mail inbox makes it simple to delete all emails at once:

  1. Log in to your Yahoo Mail account.
  2. Click the All tab at the top of your inbox.
  3. Tick the checkbox next to the first email in the list.
  4. A dropdown option will appear where the “All” tab was — click it and select All.
  5. Click the Delete (Trash) button.

✅ That’s it! All your emails will be deleted in one go.

Option 2: Delete All Emails in Classic (Basic) Yahoo Mail

If you’re using the classic Yahoo Mail interface, the steps are slightly different:

  1. Log in to your Yahoo Mail (Basic) account.
  2. Select the checkbox next to the first message.
  3. At the top, click the dropdown arrow and choose Select All.
  4. Click the Trash icon to delete them.

Pro Tip: If you have thousands of emails, switching to the new Yahoo Mail interface may be faster and smoother than using the classic version.

How to Switch Between New and Classic Yahoo Mail

Switching between the new and classic versions of Yahoo Mail is simple. If you’re still using the classic interface, you’ll see a button labeled “Try the new Yahoo Mail” — clicking it will instantly upgrade you to the modern inbox. On the other hand, if you’re already on the new Yahoo Mail but prefer the older layout, you can switch back by selecting the “Go back to the old Yahoo Mail” option at the top of the screen.

Which version should you use?
The new Yahoo Mail is faster, has a cleaner design, and offers better bulk actions like deleting all messages at once. However, if you’re more comfortable with the older layout or have a slower internet connection, the classic version may feel simpler and easier to use.

How to Empty the Trash Folder in Yahoo Mail

After bulk deleting, your emails are moved to the Trash folder. To permanently remove them:

  1. Go to the Trash folder in the left sidebar.
  2. Tick the checkbox at the top to select all messages.
  3. Click the Trash icon again to permanently delete everything.

This step frees up storage space in your Yahoo Mail account.

Quick Tip: Yahoo Mail automatically empties the Trash after 7 days, but doing it manually gives you immediate storage back.

Final Thoughts

Deleting more than 50 messages at a time in Yahoo Mail is quick and easy once you know where to look. Whether you’re using the new Yahoo Mail or the classic version, you can clean up your inbox in just a few steps.

Keeping your inbox organized not only saves space but also ensures that important emails don’t get lost in the clutter.

👉 Pro Tip: To avoid inbox overload in the future, unsubscribe from unwanted newsletters and set up filters in Yahoo Mail to automatically move less important emails into separate folders.

  1. When I open my inbox first thing in the morning and click to read the very email message all of a sudden all my emails in the inbox gets deleted. This started happening a few days ago. Have I changed something in the settings? what do I need to do to restore my original settings so this doesn’t happen? Thanks.

  2. Well, folks, I figured it out. I can now delete more than 50 emails at a time. Since I don’t want to delete everything this is what I do:

I go to my mailbox and in the search bar put the name of the retailer I want to get rid of for example Walmart, let’s say I have 1000 emails from Walmart.

Then I select the delete all box (on the left) which will highlight the first 50 emails, once the first 50 is selected I use the wheel on the mouse and scroll past all the way to the bottom of the page.

Once you get to the bottom it will start refreshing to collect the next 100, keep scrolling as far as you like and repeat this and allow the screen to recollect more emails .. until your ready to get rid of them.

Then select one un-highlighted box at the bottom then it will check off all of the emails you surpassed including the first 50 …NOW YOU CAN HIT DELETE …I’ve deleted up to 400 emails this way ….Good Luck!

  3. This is incredibly annoying when you’ve got 10K emails in your inbox. I don’t want to lose every single email in my inbox – just the thousands I don’t need clogging it up. Why can’t I open a folder and delete all just in that folder? Or delete all from a single sender, like Bed Bath & Beyond, or some other annoying retailer that spams me 5 times a day? If you have to select 50 at a time, or select 50 and try to manually add more, you can NEVER get your inbox under control. I don’t see why this is such an insurmountable technical problem. ##@@!!!
